Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero, an American actress and singer was a model in the past. She is known for co-starring in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain and for having been the singer in the group of girls Apollonia 6. In the 80s, the singer-actress Prince named Apollonia became just one of many female artists to gain from their association with the prince. She was born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her professional career started as a model and actress by the end of the '70s and included an appearance on the television show CHiPS. In 1984, she was chosen to play the lead actress in Prince's Purple Rain. (During this time period, she also changed her name.) She then replaced Vanity of the female group Vanity 6 who starred in the film with Apollonia 6 under their name. The trio scored a modest smash with Sex Shooter however it was when Prince performed as his duet partner on Take Me with You from the soundtrack that she had an impact on the charts. When the two had a falling out regarding the direction she was taking in her career Apollonia six broke up and Kotero ended her association with Prince. She was later seen in various minor roles throughout the time (reportedly declining to appear as a character in her Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) and then landed an appearance on the evening-time television drama Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia made her debut in 1988 but her comparatively tame collection of dance and R&B songs did not impress the music-buying public and soon the album vanished out of sight. The following decade saw Apollonia continued to perform as an actress (if a little under the radar) and also in a few TV roles, movies and an exercise video. In 1997, Apollonia released a Spanish/English album called Stay With Me. After that, she attended school and earned a filmmaking degree. She also formed her own production firm.
